FIBROMYALGIA SYNDROME

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is an often chronic condition characterized by widespread pain that follows a variety of patterns across the low back, neck, ribcage, shoulders, elbows, jaw, hips and knees. Associated signs and symptoms may include: headaches, mental and physical fatigue, anxiousness, depression, muscle tension, morning stiffness, parasthesias (numbness, tingling, etc.), irritable bowel and bladder, sleep disorders, tempromandibular joint dysfunction and shortness of breath. The pain of fibromyalgia can often disrupt a person’s daily work and activities: however, symptoms can usually be controlled through a combination of exercise, sleep, stress management, and sometimes medication.

The Rejuvenation Center’s specialized staff understands the multi-dimensional symptoms of FMS. Our staff will work with you to create a unique multi-factorial approach to minimize or absolve each patient’s symptoms. Our staff carefully selects a combination of treatments to target the specific and individualized needs of each patient. Aquatic therapy in the HydroWorx Pool focuses on relaxation, flexibility, aquatic massage and aerobic endurance training in a warm water gravity-reduced environment. Massage therapy combined with manual techniques and careful restorative exercise across the pelvis and rib cage help address each patient’s musculoskeletal dysfunction. Various physical modalities, including the DRX 9000 where appropriate, and use of relaxation techniques in the clinic and at home are employed. Our staff will help the patient to reflect on changes that can be made in the home and/or work environment to assist in the management of each patient’s symptoms. Our goal is to empower the patient with the proper tools to manage the symptoms of this challenging diagnosis.

When I started. I was very skeptical and was really unsure of the program. I had used a chiropracter off and on over the years. Walking or riding in the car was uncomfortable and bending and lifting was all but impossible. Starting with the MRI, the problem was finally diagnosed with a disc problem. The process took a while to start feeling better but when I compare this with the several years it took to get this way, I realized it really was a short amount of time. I remember standing in my kitchen one day and simply realizing that my back didn't hurt. I had gotten so used to the pain, that it took me by suprise to realize I could move pain free! Do I still have pain now and then - sure - but that is part of life. My stiffness or pain today is the normal over exertion from doing things I enjoy - things I wasn't able to do for five years. I'm planting a vegetable garden for the first time in six years this year, And it feels great! I can't wait to be out working in the garden again. Jodi and Linda in particular are an absolute God send. Thank you!
