Initial Evaluation
After determining that a patient is a good candidate for our program and after all
billing and insurance questions are answered, interested candidates can then
schedule an initial evaluation. This evaluation is conducted by one of our Spine
Therapists during a one-on-one process that usually takes 45-60 minutes. During the course
of this evaluation the therapist will review all of the intake information gathered during
the free consultation, including back or neck pain history and the results of X-rays, MRIs
or CT Scans. This detailed second review of each patient’s spine pathology and pain
manifestation is combined with a neurological exam to help determine which spinal level
should be prescribed for DRX or VAX-D treatments.
The therapist then performs an in-depth biomechanical assessment of the pelvis,
spine and rib cage to assess all of the mechanical influences on the body that
restrict movement or contribute to improper joint and muscle position. This type
of detailed analysis helps our team determine an accurate diagnosis of any
underlying structural issues that may be contributing to a patient’s often
complicated and chronic spine problem. Postural patterns during standing,
sitting, sleeping and work activities will be evaluated to see if habitual tendencies may
be contributing to any identified pelvic, spine or rib cage asymmetries. Information from
this portion of the evaluation will help prescribe the Postural Restoration component of
the program.
Candidates preparing for DRX or VAX-D treatments will be fit for a
decompression back brace system and given guidelines for use. The system is
much different than the standard wrap around Velcro-type back brace because it
has a two-part pulley system superimposed on top of the actual brace. This pulley
system helps provide a strong decompression to the disc segments of the lower back,
which will complement the treatments for 2 to 3 hours after each clinical decompression
session and during any difficult upright strenuous activities.
Each patient will then meet with a member of our insurance and billing department to
review benefits and expected out of pocket costs for the planned course of treatment.
Questions about authorization and payment plans will be answered so each patient has a
clear understanding of their financial responsibility before the formal treatments begin.
They will then meet with the front desk staff to coordinate a treatment schedule, including
initial testing, decompression treatments, Postural Restoration treatments, MCU or Med-X
treatments or aquatic treatments, depending on each patient’s specific prescription.
Clinic treatment hours are from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday, and the front desk staff
will make every effort to coordinate patient preference for times and days with our available
clinic schedule.
