Rejuvenation Center employs a revolutionary approach to the treatment of acute and chronic low back and neck pain syndromes. Recent advancements in both medical technology and clinical treatment approaches have allowed us to successfully treat acute and chronic back and neck pain conditions with a combination of services unlike any in the country. Our specialized spine rehab program has been built around the successful combination of 3 powerful treatment approaches, each with a strong history of demonstrated success when used independently for difficult back and neck conditions:

1. Interdiscal Decompression for Lumbar and Cervical Disc Pathologies using the VAX-D, DRX9000 and DRX9500 Systems.
2. Postural Restoration for Biomechanical Correction of the Pelvis, the Rib Cage and the Lumbar, Thoracic or Cervical Spine.
3. Core Stabilization of the Lumbar and Cervical Spine using MedX Lumbar and MCU Cervical Testing and Stabilization Equipment.

The first component of our multi-faceted approach includes treatment of the lumbar spine with the VAX-D and DRX9000 Interdiscal Decompression Systems and the cervical spine with the DRX9500 Interdiscal Decompression System. Each of these systems has been designed to provide static, intermittent and cycling distraction forces at specific spinal segments in either the low back (lumbar spine) or neck (cervical spine). Disc pathologies are common when evaluating MRI or CAT Scans of patients with back or neck pain. These pathologies include things like disc bulges, disc herniations, degenerative disc disease or disc tears, each with the potential to compress or irritate the spinal nerves in the central spinal canal or the exiting nerve roots in the lateral spinal canals at each vertebral level.

This type of decompression lowers the pressure inside the injured disc, which in turn reduces the bulging and over-compressed nature of the disc and provides an environment that promotes healing and disc stabilization. Because we are able to control how each patient is positioned, harnessed and the specific angle of pull into each level of the spine, most of the pull force can be directed into one or two specific spinal segments. This takes the traditional concepts of straight table traction or inversion traction to an entirely different level and allows us to provide the decompression to the disc that needs it, instead of sharing the distraction force across multiple spinal levels. This proven combination of decompression, reduction and stabilization across the intervertebral disks and associated structures can directly relieve radiating back and neck pain symptoms by taking the pressure off spinal nerves and opening the intervertebral spaces. This type of treatment can also help relieve radiating pain, numbness or tingling often experienced down the arms or legs with disc pathology patients. Extensive research on both the DRX and VAX-D systems have shown remarkable rates of success between 76-90%.

The second component of our spine rehab program is a unique approach to physical medicine and rehabilitation called Postural Restoration. The Rejuvenation Center is one of only 10 clinics in the country fully certified to perform this type of advanced therapy. This certification goes way beyond the scope of standard physical therapy training and includes post graduate course work, clinical training, and demonstrated proficiency using this multi-faceted treatment approach. Our clinic’s commitment to this additional 2-3 year post graduate certification process has given us a definitive edge providing physical therapy for difficult back and neck pain patients.

This approach addresses any problems with underlying biomechanics which can often lead to pain or functional limitation. All mechanical influences on the body that restrict movement and contribute to improper joint and muscle position are examined and taken into consideration. This type of in-depth biomechanical assessment allows accurate diagnosis of any underlying structural issues that may be contributing to a patient’s often complicated and chronic problem. The Rejuvenation Center was one of the first clinics in the United States to be certified in Postural Restoration and the only clinic in Omaha Nebraska with this advanced level of training across the entire spine rehab team. It is significant to note that The Rejuvenation Center is the only facility in the country to combine certified Postural Restoration care with the DRX or VAX-D spine rehab systems.

Postural asymmetries and biomechanical problems across the pelvic girdle, hips, spine, rib cage and shoulder complex are assessed and treated in association with the decompression work done by the DRX and VAX-D systems. After the disc is decompressed and a healing environment is created, the correction of the pelvic rotation and rib cage counter rotation with Postural Restoration helps maintain the decompressed environment across the spinal segments. This type of therapy is delivered through specialized corrective exercises and activities and is built around a home exercise program. These activities decrease the torque across the spine, which in turn decreases the compressive forces across the involved disc segment, because decreased torsion equals decreased compression. In fact, disc torsion and compression because of uneven pelvic rotation and the spine’s compensatory counter-rotation is often found to be a contributing part of their disc pathology in the first place. This type of corrective exercise program ensures that ongoing spinal torque does not prevent optimal disc healing or curtail successful long term outcomes.

The third component of our program involves stabilizing the decompressed and properly aligned spine segments with the MedX Lumbar and the MCU Cervical Testing and Rehab Equipment.

MedX has established itself as the worldwide leader in spinal strengthening with its medical testing and rehab equipment specifically targeting the lumbar spine. The spinal testing and rehab protocols are clearly defined and scientifically based to establish baseline spine strength and to help patients attain superior outcomes after the disc pathology and biomechanical problems have been addressed. The Rejuvenation Center has incorporated the Lumbar Medical Testing Machine and the Core Spinal Fitness System by MedX into the low back program as key stabilization and long term maintenance elements to complement the Intradiscal Decompression and Postural Restoration therapies. The Lumbar testing machine and the five piece Core Spinal Fitness System are designed to isolate patterns of core muscle weakness across the spine without muscle substitution or compensation. This spine specific approach to strengthening core musculature has yielded a strong history of proven clinical outcomes over years of clinical trials involving thousands of patients.

The Rejuvenation Center also researched the finest available equipment and technology when deciding on a cervical assessment and rehab unit. This research led to the inclusion of the BTE Multi Cervical Unit (MCU), which is the most effective and complete system for cervical assessment and rehab available. This machine provides objective cervical strength and range of motion data as well as a standardized rehab protocol. The MCU has a computerized interface that records real-time cervical spine movement and isometric strength in all three planes of motion. It can provide graphical and narrative documentation for range of motion and strength at 0 degrees, 25 degrees and 45 degrees. This type of testing eliminates the subjectivity of manual testing and gives clear, definitive data on where cervical weaknesses exist. The MCU offers testing and treatment for a wide variety of patients, including: general and chronic neck pain, whiplash associated disorders, muscle tension headaches, cervical disc compression, sports related injuries and postural dysfunction. Additionally, the dynamic strengthening protocol complements the Postural Restoration therapy, while it maintains objectivity for the progression of cervical spine rehab.
